FiresVR Launches Xiaomi-based, GearVR-like Products

Product line includes Unity-based SDK, mobile phone VR hardware with built-in IMU, and an operating system

BEIJING, Dec. 28. 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Chinese virtual reality platform company FiresVR (FiresVR.com) launched its JiDome-1 this month, VR hardware product for phones that is highly similar to Samsung's GearVR. In addition to hardware, the company has dubbed itself "The"Xiaomi of China's VR industry," and has also introduced a Unity-based SDK and a complete user interaction system.

This is China's first mobile phone VR hardware product with built-in high-performance IMU and interactive buttons. Previously the Chinese market had been flooded with similar products based on Google's cardboard and modified versions of its open-source SDK, which were more like toys stead of formal VR products. It is also the first time that a Chinese company has attempted to provide a high-performance product comparable to GearVR.

JiDome-1 has an optical structure adapted to screen sizes of all mainstream mobile phones, a high-precision 9-axis gyroscope and proximity sensor, redefined weak interaction buttons, and an air-cooling system with balanced cooling efficiency and working noise. It will be available to developers in the first quarter of 2016, priced at RMB199, or about USD$30. The consumer edition of JiDome-1 will be marketed in the second quarter, but its price remains unknown.

According to FiresVR founder and CEO Frank Lou, JiDome-1 is technically very close to Samsung's GearVR. But unlike GearVR, which only supports Samsung phones, JiDome-1 is compatible with extensive Android phones with designated parameters. Still lacking support from key mobile phone manufacturers, JiDome-1 is slightly inferior to GearVR in user experience, but the gap may be closed if mobile phone manufacturers are willing to cooperate.

JiDome-1 has adopted an ATW algorithm similar to that of GearVR, but to date not all Android phones support it. Compatible phones must have GPUs that support API of OPENGL ES3.0 or higher, with overall performance equivalent to or better than Qualcomm Adreno 310 (a GPU built into the Qualcomm 801 platform). This means that JiDome-1 is only adaptable to 30% of mobile phones currently on market, but the proportion is expected to exceed 50% in 2016, driven by natural iteration on the mobile phone market.

The three co-founders of FiresVR hail from Tencent and Baofeng Technology. Its technology team used to be the VR software group at Baofeng Technology, which is now well-known on the A-share stock market. Shortly before the company floated its A-shares, the entire VR software group left Baofeng and incorporated FiresVR in October 2014, aspiring to become "The Xiaomi of the VR industry" in China.

Interestingly, the Xiaomi Note Flagship edition was used in FiresVR's hardware demonstration at the product launch event, but the company said that it has not yet finalized a cooperation agreement with any mobile phone manufacturers. It is hoping to work with non-Samsung manufacturers to launch more mobile VR products.

BEIJING, December 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Jiayuan.com International Ltd. (NASDAQ: DATE) ("Jiayuan" or the "Company"), operator of the largest online dating platform in China, today announced that, at an extraordinary general meeting held today, the Company's shareholders voted in favor of the proposal to authorize and approve the previously announced Agreement and Plan of Merger (the "Merger Agreement") dated as of December 7, 2015 among the Company, LoveWorld Inc. ("Parent") and FutureWorld Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Parent ("Merger Sub"), pursuant to which Merger Sub will be merged with and into the Company with the Company continuing as the surviving company (the "Merger") and to authorize and approve any and all transactions contemplated by the Merger Agreement, including the Merger.

Shanghai Symphony Orchestra has been focusing on incorporating the guest conductors' best works when planning the concert program -- Riccardo Muti has led the orchestra's performance of "Capriccio Italien," Kurt Masur brought works by Beethoven, Mikhail Pletnev conducted Russian masterpieces, Alan Gilbert showed authentic American Jazz, Christoph Eschenbach conducted works by Mahler, Weber and Mendelssohn as well as Paavo Jarvi's presentation of "Ma Vlast."

German maestro Masur, who conducted the 2011 Shanghai New Year's Concert and presented Beethoven's Symphony No.9 to the Shanghai audience, passed away on December 19.

"The Beethoven Symphony No.9 conducted by Masur at that concert was one of the best performances in the history of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra," recalled Chen Guangxian, who was the president of the orchestra at that time. Following this strategy, the 2016 Shanghai New Year's Concert will be conducted by Daniele Gatti, the newly appointed chief conductor of Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in the Netherlands. The orchestra has previously topped Gramophone magazine's ranking of top 10 symphony orchestras in the world.

Soprano Olga Peretyatko will join Gatti and Shanghai Symphony Orchestra to perform Verdi's opera pieces including "E strano! e strano!' from "La traviata" and "Caro nome" from "Rigoletto" among others.

Gatti is another internationally acclaimed conductor from Italy following the footsteps of Arturo Toscanini, Muti, Giuseppe Sinopoli and Claudio Abbado. Zhouzhuang's Historic Folk Liquor Distillery Brews Yellow Rice Wine and History

ZHOUZHUANG, China, January 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- On Jan. 3, Zhouzhuang hosted a Wansan yellow rice wine tasting on the gaily painted boat, guests toured around the water town down the ancient canals while savoring the wine aged to perfection.

The wine sampled at the seminar were from Yuanfengshun, the largest folk yellow rice wine brewery in town, which was founded in 1821 during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). The brew workshop opened in 2001 is housed in an ancient stone and brick building where visitors can buy authentic yellow rice wine and learn about the wine culture at the same time.

Huang jiu, which translates into yellow wine, is a unique Chinese alcoholic beverage made with water and cereal grains.

"Good water makes better wines, and Zhouzhuang is a town surrounded by four lakes - Cheng Lake, Baixian Lake, Dianshan Lake and South Lake, which promises the best quality," said Huang Guoxing, a wine maker in Zhouzhuang. "Yellow rice wine is rooted in our daily life, it is indispensable in every household."

Huang, now in his 60s, has 40 years of wine making experience. To make the yellow rice wine, he sources good quality rice and wheat from local farmers and brews in the traditional method.

The ancient craftsmanship of making yellow rice wine by hand includes eight steps from steaming the rice, fermentation to pressing and boiling the wine.

The newly brewed yellow rice wine is strong and sweet, and most people prefer the aged brews with mellower and richer taste, said Huang.

The history of yellow rice wine in Zhouzhuang traces back to early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) when Shen Wansan, the richest man across the region at the time, brought yellow rice wine every time he sailed away from home. He drank the wine to heal the nostalgia, gifted the wine to explore new opportunities and sold the wine to profit.

The wine is best enjoyed as a warm beverage to bring out a mild and aromatic flavor different from other liquors and help with the cold winter days.

Young people also prefer to drink chilled yellow rice wine, even make it into cocktails by mixing with lemon, candied plum and soda water.

"People in Zhouzhuang has a long history of drinking yellow rice wine, its distinct taste combined with medicinal values makes it the most popular beverage for hundreds of years," Huang said.

The yellow rice wine also packs amino acids, vitamins and minerals. It's often paired with rich and bold flavored dishes such as steamed hairy crab, a seasonal favorite as well as the famous Wansan braised pork knuckle that one can only find in Zhouzhuang.
